Farm Tours

Farm Tours

Spend a day on our historic 11-acre property and experience the process of farming oysters directly at the source.

Your 2-hour tour will start with a walk through the halls of our hatchery where you’ll see first-hand how the process of growing oysters begins. Then you’ll climb aboard our 27-foot Carolina Skiff tour boat and ride out on Duxbury Bay to see where the magic happens. Take in an eye and earful of history, lore and oyster gossip all the while being blasted with ocean air and filling up on freshly shucked oysters sourced directly from the waters beneath you – it’s farm to table at its essence. If you are feeling confident, our tour guide will even teach you to shuck an oyster like a pro. Once your tour is over, you can make your way to our bayfront raw bar, sit by the bonfire, enjoy the view and stay awhile. Our hope is you’ll leave Duxbury with a comprehensive understanding of our world of aquaculture, and have a damn good time doing it.

Due to CDC recommendations and state guidelines, we have decided not to host any 2020 Farm Tours. Please know that we can’t wait to welcome you back in our hatchery halls and on our farm boats, next year when it is safer to do so.

Tickets range in price from $50 – $150/person based on month, day of the week and Holidays.

You can book anywhere from 1-12 – where availability allows.  We are strictly bound to the 12 person limit due to coast guard regulations and space limitations. No exceptions there.

401 Washington Street, Duxbury, MA 02332 – Turn into the driveway across from the church, and follow signs on the property for FARM TOURS and PARKING.

Tours are sold exclusively on our website and are first come, first served. Simply select the desired number of people in your party, click “search reservations” or “book now,” and the days available for that number of people will populate with the price of those tickets.

Yes! It would be a travesty if you didn’t. You will get to eat unlimited oysters for the boat portion of the tour. Tours are also BYOB so feel free to bring your favorite beverage pairing. The Raw Bar at the farm; however, is not BYOB because we have a liquor license, so we ask that if you want to have a drink before or after your tour, you get it at the bar. You can buy oysters there as well, after the tour. We may include some raw bar coupons in your goodie bag when you leave, to sweeten the deal.

Tours are non-refundable unless we are forced to cancel due to weather related circumstances.

Tours are also completely transferable whether you sell them or gift them to another party. Please just confirm with us who will be taking your spot and their contact information. You may also reschedule your tour if you give us at least 2 weeks notice. If less than 3 weeks notice, we can move your tour as long as we are able to fill your previous spots.

Please be prepared to dress for the weather, and wear comfortable shoes that can be worn outdoors, particularly on docks and boats. You will not be getting out of the boat and onto the mud flats, so street shoes are fine. We send an email the day before every tour to check in about weather conditions here in Duxbury expected for your tour day.

Tours are weather dependent, but we do our best to follow through with the tours whenever possible. If there is an issue caused by weather, and we can’t take you out on your selected date, we will discuss the alternate options on a case by case basis.

Yes, if you have trouble with mobility, we have handicap ramps and parking available. To make things easiest, you may want to consider a high tide tour because the ramp to the docks gets steeper as the tide gets lower.

Island Creek’s very own Caretaker’s Cottage is available for rent for those looking to double down on their Island Creek experience. Booking is limited, but this will be the perfect match for those looking to take the tour, enjoy the raw bar and stumble home. Take advantage of the local history, our private beach, paddle boards, and general adorableness that is the little town we call home.

The Duxbury Rural & Historical Society generously offers customers of Island Creek Oysters Farm Tours 50% discount at their historic houses. Make a day of it in Duxbury with a visit to the DRHS museums: the King Caesar House and the Bradford House. The tickets are good for any time in the regular season and are transferrable (so you can give it to a friend!). Simply look for your ticket in your Island Creek gift bag at the end of your tour to receive your discount.  For hours and information, please visit http://duxburyhistory.org/historic-houses/.
